Adaptation to environment maximizes productivity, especially in business. We at Mustang have become incredible at adapting to all kinds of workspaces, from setting up portable laptops on counters to fighting carsickness as we tap on our phones from inside vehicles.
When I started at Mustang about 14 months ago, working in such close proximity to my co-workers at Mustang’s home office took some getting used to. I did enjoy it, however, since I got to know them all really well really quickly—which has proven to be critical in a busy small business environment. But while we have access to everything we need to function and turn out award-winning work, the quarters are a little tight, and there are some aspects of my job—whether it be having a difficult conversation with a client or pitching a story to a prickly editor—that made me long for a bit more privacy.
All that is going to change next month. The team will move out of Harris Ranch and into a brand new office building! Besides the slightly longer commute for all of us (except Michael, whose commute shortens, and Danny, who doesn’t commute), a down side doesn’t exist to this relocation.
The biggest (and most welcome) change that I’ll experience is having my own office—a beautiful cubicle exists behind Dianne’s new office that will be all mine. This will cut down on the innate distractions of having all your coworkers within an earshot (and the occasional botched-design-concept-turned-paper-airplane colliding with the side of my head), and I’m positive my job productivity, performance and confidence will reach new heights.
Although I’ll miss the ability to swivel around in my chair and ask Randall a question or peek my head around the doorframe to signal Chris, I’m grateful that my Mustang version of the Bat Cave awaits me.
Hi…enjoyed your comments on your new space. We are in the business of furnishing workspaces….sounds like you are all set. However, I wanted to reach out in case you did need some help. We are in Agoura Hills.
