At Mustang, we take branding—and logos—very seriously. Logos are considered by many to be the foundation for all branding efforts and, as a result, any changes to a logo—whether subtle or dramatic—should only be made after considerable discussion regarding strategy and long-term impact.
That said, here at Mustang, we change our logo all the time. Here is our “standard” logo—the one you’ll find on almost everything we do:
However, to embrace the holiday spirit, we frequently temporarily tweak our logo. Usually, the new logo is used exclusively in our email signatures, and it almost always generates positive comments from our clients. For us, it also gives the creative team an outlet to have a little holiday fun. Here is the logo we are using this October:
While we make these temporary logo changes to have fun, and maybe bring a bit of attention to our company name, there is also a strategic advantage behind them. Clients who receive frequent emails from us almost certainly reach a point where, although the logo is there, they no longer really see it. The holiday logos may remind them that while we are a serious company—and take their marketing very seriously—it’s okay, every once in a while, to cut loose.
Over the past year, we have done customized, temporary logos for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Fourth of July (my favorite holiday after Thanksgiving):
Next year, I’d like to add Passover and Arbor Day. Suggestions are welcome!
If you’d like to discuss having some fun with your logo, or have a serious discussion about the importance and impact of branding, just give me a call. Either way, Happy Halloween!!!
